Old Shrewsbury Bowling Club has a large hall and bar room for hire, together with a licensed bar and basic kitchen facilities. Click HERE to go to our Venue Hire page. If you would like to receive details about hiring our club, email karen.osbc@btinternet.com.
Located in the heart of the medieval town of Shrewsbury in Shropshire and close to the river Severn, our bowling club has been running for 115 years.
Our bowling season runs from the 1st of April through to the end of September, depending on the condition of our two greens and so long as the grounds are not flooded! We currently have around 140 members of all ages who play crown green bowls at various levels. We have teams who play competitively in various County leagues and a group of very active social bowlers of all abilities, who meet to play for fun and fitness on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 1.15pm until 4pm. In the coming winter months, we are hoping to set up “short mat” bowling in the clubhouse.
Visitors to Shrewsbury who are established bowlers and would like to keep their hand in while on holiday here, can arrange to do so by emailing the Bowling Club Secretary at Lesley.osbc@btinternet.com.
We can offer taster or coaching sessions with our Social Bowling Leader, Janet, to aspiring new members. She will guide you through the techniques and rules of bowling and this is especially useful if you are a beginner. While you are deciding if bowling is for you, there are bowls that you may initially borrow.
As well as bowling, we have an active social side with a variety of well-attended events being held during the year for members and their families to enjoy. These include barbecues, quiz evenings, treasure hunts, whist and dominoes – anything that will help to cover the clubhouse energy bill! There is also a well-stocked bar for members’ use and there is private parking at the club, but this is strictly for use when club members are using the bowling facilities.
We are always ready to welcome new members of any age, whether they are experienced players or not.
